Do It Today - Bayley Design

…it’s not just for other people that you need to start small. You need to for your own sake. Neither Bill Gates nor Mark Zuckerberg knew at first how big their companies were going to get. All they knew was that they were onto something. Maybe it’s a bad idea to have really big ambitions initially, because the bigger your ambition, the longer it’s going to take, and the further you project into the future, the more likely you’ll get it wrong.

What’s the difference between a dream and a passion? A dream often is a snapshot moment of idyllic perfection. A passion is an ongoing burning that compels you. I believe in having both. If you are going to have a business for a long time, it will take passion to make it succeed.

J.K. Rowling’s Commencement Speech at Harvard

On failure

“There is an expiry date on blaming your parents for steering you in the wrong direction.”

“Rock bottom became a solid foundation on which I rebuilt my life.”

“…some failure in life is inevitable. It is impossible to live without failing at something, unless you’ve lived so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all. In which case you’ve failed by default.”

On imagination

“Unlike any other creature on this planet, human beings can learn and understand without having experienced. They can think themselves into other people’s places.”

“The willfully unimaginative see more monsters, they are often more afraid.”

“As is a tale, so is life. Not how long it is, but how good it is, is what matters.”

Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination are omnipotent. The slogan ‘press on’ has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race.
